Time to get your geek on and come to Middle Earth with me…
Location 1: Deer Park Heights, Queenstown The deer park sits just beneath the Remarkables mountain range in Queenstown, South Island. The sites used in the Lord of the Rings films are clearly signposted, which makes it nice and easy. I recommend you take a group of similarly-obsessed weirdos with you so you can act out your favourite scenes. Aragorn’s Cliff.
The place where Hama is killed by the warg rider.
The place where Gimli falls off the horse (and Eowyn makes crappy soup)
Location 2: Paradise/ Glenorchy (Isengard and and Fangorn Forest)
Location 3: Kaitoke Regional Park (Rivendell)
Location 4: Arrowtown (Flight to the Ford) From what I understand (the guidebook is a tad confusing) part of the Flight to the Ford sequence was filmed here, while most of it was shot at the Shotover River at Skippers Canyon near Queenstown.
Location 5: Hutt River (Aragorn floats downstream)
Location 6: Wellington (Get off the road!)
