Emma Woods is an Australian fiction writer. Her first novel, Gingerstruck, is a historical fantasy for adults set in the Black Forest in the mid 17th century. It’s a sequel to the ‘Hansel & Gretel’ fairy tale and takes place twenty years after the original story’s end.
The manuscript was accepted into the 2014/2015 Australian Society of Authors Emerging Writers and Illustrators Mentorship Program and was completed with the guidance of Emma’s mentor, best-selling Australian fantasy and historical fiction author Kate Forsyth.
In September 2014 Emma visited Germany to research Gingerstruck – she walked in the woods, visited historic locations and spent time with a local nature guide.
Emma has featured in author Natasha Lester’s series of interviews with emerging Australian writers. She has a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in English Literature and Creative Writing, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Studies.
She is a professionally recognised librarian and works in a busy public library. Emma lives in beautiful Jervis Bay, Australia, with her husband and two young sons.
